Withdrawal from Religious Education
On 3rd February 2026, the Department of Education issued guidance confirming that all parents have a statutory right to withdraw their child, wholly or partially, from Religious Education and/or collective worship, if they so wish.
In the first instance, we welcome families to have a conversation with Mrs Jackson if they are considering withdrawal. This provides an opportunity to discuss any concerns and to ensure there is a shared understanding of how Religious Education and collective worship are delivered within our school. This conversation is entirely optional and is not required in order to proceed with a withdrawal request. The school will acknowledge and implement all requests within five working days. The arrangement will remain in place unless and until a parent submits a written request to amend or withdraw it.
If you wish to withdraw your child, you may contact the school office for a parental withdrawal form or download the form below.
As a Catholic school, our ethos and values are interwoven throughout daily school life. While pupils may be withdrawn from specific elements of Religious Education or collective worship, they will not be removed from their class group, in line with our commitment to inclusion and a sense of belonging for all children. Teachers will use inclusive language, for example inviting children to take part in prayer. Pupils who are not participating are expected to show respect for the beliefs and practices of others. They may use this time for quiet reflection or, if appropriate, to pray according to their own faith tradition.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs Jackson.
