Stars & Highlights of the week 30.01.2026

31st Jan 2026

It has been another wonderful week full of achievement, creativity, and celebration across the school.

We were delighted to celebrate two sisters who recently competed in Irish dancing and proudly received their trophies - a fantastic achievement and a great example of dedication and hard work. We also congratulated a Primary 3 pupil who plays for the Magherafelt Sky Blues, sharing his sporting success at assembly and inspiring others with his enthusiasm and commitment.

Classrooms have been buzzing with creativity this week, with pupils producing lots of beautiful artwork in preparation for Grandparents’ Day, St Brigid's Day and Valentine’s Day - the displays are looking lovely and full of colour.

Our pupils took part in skills testing this week, giving their best effort and showing great focus and determination.

Our Primary 7 pupils enjoyed a fun and educational Royal Detective Hunt around the school, gathering facts and clues about Queen Victoria and Prince Albert — a brilliant way to bring history to life.

We would also like to thank everyone who attended our “How Learners Learn” twilight sessions, in the school. The sessions focused on practical, research-based strategies to support memory, attention, assessment, and independent learning in the classroom. It was lovely to see so many engaging, sharing ideas, and reflecting on ways to continue strengthening teaching and learning across our school.

A heartfelt thank-you to all families who joined us for Grandparents’ Day. It was a truly special occasion, filled with smiles, stories, and treasured moments shared between generations.

We proudly celebrated our Stars of the Week, recognising pupils who continue to shine through their kindness, effort, and positive attitudes.

We also celebrated two special birthdays this week, as our wonderful Classroom Assistants Claire Mac and Claire McK marked their birthdays just a day apart — including one very special 30th celebration! We hope you both had a fantastic time.

It’s not only our pupils who receive certificates! A big well done to Sonya and Martin, who were awarded certificates for completing Fire Safety Awareness and Emergency Paediatric First Aid training. Their commitment to keeping our school community safe is greatly appreciated.

Another fantastic week at St. Mary’s — well done to everyone, and we hope you all have a lovely weekend!
