Stars & Highlights of the Week

3rd Oct 2025

This Week at St. Mary’s

It’s been another wonderfully busy week here at St. Mary’s, filled with learning, laughter, and plenty of excitement!

A big thank you to Deirdre from ‘Avoid Harm on the Farm’, who joined us for an engaging and informative session about farm safety. The children really enjoyed the presentation and learned some very important lessons about staying safe while having fun on the farm.

Our pupils have loved spending time outdoors again this week, enjoying fresh air, play, and friendship in the playground. Our after-school clubs and Rise and Shine Breakfast Club continue to go from strength to strength — it’s fantastic to see so many happy faces joining in each day.

We’d also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Laura and Paddy for visiting to lead Eucharistic Adoration and for gifting our pupils with beautiful St. Benedict medals — such a special moment for the children and staff alike.

During our school assembly, pupils were given their roles for the year ahead, following a very tough decision-making process after so many thoughtful applications and creative drawings. Well done to all those selected for our:

  • School Council
  • Digital Leaders
  • Play Monitors
  • Eco Committee

We know each of you will represent St. Mary’s with pride and positivity throughout the year.

Our Boo Baskets also made their spooky debut this week — a huge thank you to Serena from Families and Friends for creating them with such care and creativity. Raffle tickets for the baskets can be purchased from the school office on Monday.

A special well done to our P5 pupil whose name was chosen for our Reflection Swan — now officially called Skylar. Skylar will be spending the weekend with her new friend

And of course, a big well done to our Stars of the Week — each one recognised for their hard work, kindness, and positive attitude both in and out of the classroom. We’re so proud of how our pupils continue to live out our school values every single day.

A big congratulations as well to our two Primary 7 pupils who achieved their pen licences this week

We also celebrated World Teachers’ Day, which takes place on Sunday. Our pupils helped make the day extra special by showing their appreciation for the wonderful teachers of St. Mary’s, who inspire, nurture, and guide our children each and every day.

Finally, we send our warmest wishes to our classroom assistant Samantha and partner Anthony, who are celebrating their wedding this weekend — we hope they have the most magical day and enjoy every moment of their celebrations. Thank you to Angela McManus for the delicious cupcakes to celebrate Samantha before her wedding. And a very happy birthday to our Classroom Assistant Rachel, who we hope has a fabulous day filled with laughter, tea, and cake!

Next week brings more excitement with our Book Fair and Halloween Costume Swap, giving families a chance to share, recycle, and pick up something new for spooky season fun!

It also marks another exciting milestone for our Primary 1 pupils, as they begin staying in school until 2:00pm — they have settled in so well, and we are so proud of how confidently they are growing into school life.

A reminder that our new dinner menu starts next week  — please take a look and chat with your child about their choices for the week ahead.

Finally, we hope everyone stays safe and cosy over the weekend as Storm Amy passes through. Thank you to all our families for your cooperation with the early finish today — your support and understanding are, as always, greatly appreciated.

Another great week at St. Mary’s — full of joy, effort, and community spirit. Well done, everyone!
